ATHENS Workers protesting against high oil prices and taxation ended a brief occupation of the Greek Development Ministry on Friday, but pledged to continue their demonstration in central Athens.
More than 20 protesters, members of the Workers Struggle Front (PAME), unfolded a large banner attacking the ruling socialist government's financial policies during the occupation, which lasted several hours.
Protesters described the action as a symbolic gesture. They said they would now take their protest to the streets with a major rally scheduled for today.
"This will be a large demonstration with people, cars and even tractors," said PAME Secretariat member Babis Vortelinos.
Vortelinos charged that 68 percent of Greece's oil price was tax. "The working man cannot make ends meet," he told Reuters.
